Every year scores of Management graduates pass out of college with flying colors. Some ambitious, some chilled out, some nervous and some relieved that the worst is over.
To each his own. Everyone has a reason behind choosing their specialization- most coveted field, highly paid jobs available in the market, economic boom, social status, herd mentality, passion and not to forget an easy desk job.
During the last six years, I have come across Management Graduates who chose to be in HR just because its a simple 9 to 6 desk job. No stretch targets, no tight deadlines, no field work and so on so forth. During several industry interactions too, many corporate honchos shared a similar opinion-
" There is nothing to learn in HR. You just need to mug up the basics and you are good to go."
- Quoted by an industry mentor, heading National Sales, at a leading IT firm
Well here's a reality check. All you budding Management Graduates who want to make a career in the HR. Close your eyes, sit back and think hard as to why do you want to be a part of the Human Resource fraternity?
If the answer is- its an easy career option, my suggestion is - DO NOT OPT FOR IT.
We HR professionals are today's change makers. We are the ones who create, nurture and develop the most important resource - Skilled Humans. If we are flawed by our ambiguous professional aspirations, nothing can stop the ensuing depletion of skilled resource.
We do get real stretch targets and killing deadlines.
Let your passion for managing skilled humans be the motive behind stepping in to this function. HR today is just not about recruitment, payroll and appraisal. It is not just a back office function anymore. We HR professionals are not the babus busy doing paper work.
We Are The Change Makers. We Are The Facilitators. We Nurture Culture. We Provide Impetus To The Revenue Generators.
This is what awaits you today, as you aspire to become a HR management graduate. Think again ....Do you really have the zeal to nurture skilled Humans or you are looking for just another regular desk job?
